About the Artist

Dominique Swift is an artist originally from Philadelphia, PA. Growing up within complex communities, she became aware early of how narrowly Black experience is often represented in mainstream media. That awareness continues to shape her desire to create images and narratives she rarely saw reflected back to her. She earned a BA in Media and Professional Communications with a minor in Studio Arts from the University of Pittsburgh in 2023.

Her practice explores identity, heritage, and collective memory, treating visual art as a form of counter-memory and recognition. Working with saturated palettes and textured surfaces Swift emphasizes process while honoring the body and the senses as living archives. Her work bridges institutional history and lived experience, creating space for personal and communal memory to be seen as cultural knowledge. Swift’s work has been exhibited at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center, Brewhouse Arts, Hay St. Gallery, MuseumLab, and the Andy Warhol Museum.
