ULI AWAKENED: IN HER NAME | SCREENPRINTING WORKSHOP

  • Artist Image Resource (AIR) 518 Foreland Street Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 15212 United States (map)

Join artist Dominique Swift for a hands-on screen printing workshop inspired by Uli, a Nigerian (Igbo) artistic tradition.

Presented in conjunction with her solo-exhibition, Uli Awakened: In Her Name, this workshop invites participants to explore the visual language, symbolism, and cultural significance of Uli through contemporary printmaking. After a brief introduction to the history of the practice and its influence on the exhibition, participants will create their own screenprinted designs on tote bags and paper using Uli-inspired motifs.

No prior printmaking experience is necessary. Whether you are an artist, creative professional, student, or simply curious about African art and cultural traditions, this workshop offers an opportunity to learn, create, and connect through a practice rooted in storytelling, identity, and community.

Participants will leave with

  • A screenprinted tote bag

  • A screenprinted poster

  • An introduction to the history and symbolism of Uli and Nsibidi

Space is limited to ensure an intimate, hands-on experience.

All materials are included with registration.
